Race To Point April 26th 2008
The Palmetto Point Homecoming Committtee invited the club to hold a sail boat race from Governor's Harbour to South Palmetto Point Beach, a distance of over 5 miles.
-
Steffon Fernander sailing the "hybrid" finds that the wind outside the harbour is very strong with gusts to 25 knots on the nose. "Angel" follows behind. (the hybrid is a minifish with a larger sunfish sail; quite a handfull in a strong breeze!)
-
Daniel Davis is the first and only Opti to complete the course. Patrick Similien is the first and only sunfish to finish.
-
The red bimini is the second safety boat driven by Scott Bethel. Kenneth Davis made it most of the way in his Opti.

After a splendid barbecue lunch its all hands on deck for the awards filmed by Bobby of ZNS.
-
Tony Crane, Commodore Mark Adams and Hank Johnson present the awards then the boats are prepared for the return.

Steffon Fernander capsized 3 times in the "hybrid" but carried on sailing and almost made it to Point.
-
Two optis are towed back behind Angel.
-
The wind, still at 20-25 knots, is now behind us for the sail home. After a very fast passage, Ashton Johnson (pictured) is first into Harbour, followed closely by Rasheed Nelus. The fast boat is the third safety boat driven by Wade Sands.
-
Ted Thompson would have made it back in the hybrid but the tiller broke passing the Sunset Inn.
